Chicago Sky rookie Sydney Taylor did not hide her frustration after Saturday’s 93-92 loss to the Dallas Wings, and the target of that frustration was clear.

Taylor said after the game that Chicago got some tough whistles late in a one-point loss that slipped away in the final seconds. “You never want to blame the officials, but there were some bad calls there at the end of the game,” Taylor said after the Sky let a late lead disappear against Dallas.

The ending gave her plenty to be upset about. Chicago led by 17 points in the fourth quarter before Dallas stormed back. The game was ultimately decided in the final seconds with a four-point play from Paige Bueckers and two late free throws from Li Yueru.

It was another brutal finish for a Sky team that has spent much of the season living on the edge of close games. Taylor’s comments landed because she was right in the middle of it.

The undrafted rookie scored 18 points in 25 minutes, shot 6-of-13 from the field and again gave Chicago needed offense in a game that turned chaotic late. She eventually fouled out, which only added to the frustration around a closing stretch that had both the Sky bench and fans questioning several whistles.

That reaction also fits the bigger picture of Taylor’s month. She has gone from training camp long shot to one of Chicago’s most important scorers in a hurry. Taylor recently scored 30 points against Indiana and followed it up with 24 points against New York. Her performance has helped her secure a significant role on a roster that desperately needed perimeter scoring.

The Sky have leaned on her shot creation with Rickea Jackson sidelined, and she has responded by playing without much fear.

So while the quote was about one game, it also reflected where Chicago is right now. The Sky are losing tight games, Taylor is becoming a central piece of the offense, and every late whistle feels bigger when the margin is one point. Saturday’s finish will be remembered for Dallas’ comeback, but Taylor made sure Chicago’s side of the frustration was heard too.
