The Oklahoma Sooners have sent out a number of offers at the quarterback position in the 2028 recruiting class, but they saw one of those offers give a verbal pledge to another school on Thursday.
Trey Tagliaferri, out of Bergen Catholic High School in Oradell, New Jersey, committed to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish on Thursday. The 6-foot-1, 190-pound passer was a three-star QB prospect in the '28 class, according to 247Sports. He picked the Irish over OU and Penn State.

Fortunately for offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Ben Arbuckle and quarterbacks coach John Kuceyeski, each of the other four signal callers that the Sooners have offered in the 2028 cycle remain uncommitted. OU has given offers to Graham Simpson, Brady Quinn, Gavin Strang, and Trey Wright in the class of 2028. The Sooners have also shown some interest in Nash Henry, a local product from Norman North High School, but they have not offered him yet.
On the first day of the 2028 recruiting cycle, Quinn made his way from Florida to spend it with Venables, Arbuckle, and John Kuceyeski. The staff has made the four-star quarterback a huge focus in the 2028 cycle.
So far in the 2029 class, Oklahoma has offered two QBs. Both Logan Lucero and Ryder Flugence have received an early offer from the Sooners. Arbuckle and Kuceyeski have yet to offer a signal-caller in the 2030 class.

As for the current recruiting cycle, the Sooners have two pledges at QB in the 2027 class. Jamison Roberts, who hails from Mobile, Alabama, was the priority QB target for OU in the cycle. He's been committed to Oklahoma since March. Noah Smith, who is from nearby Lawton, Oklahoma, impressed OU enough earlier this month to get an offer, despite being an unheralded prospect. He committed to the Sooners in short order after getting offered.
Head coach Brent Venables and general manager Jim Nagy are still looking for their first commit to stick in the 2028 class, but they've put together quite the group in the '27 cycle, with 25 commits that currently make up a consensus top-five class in the nation to this point.
