As Wyndham Clark enters Sunday with a stranglehold on the U.S. Open, he has a chance to join some rare company.

Clark’s survival of Shinnecock Hills has him holding a big lead at the 2026 U.S. Open, just three years after he took down the field in Los Angeles. As a result, he is in position to join an exclusive group of golfers to win this major championship twice.

While Clark has not consistently impressed in the majors throughout his career, his top performances on golf’s biggest stages have been strong. With Shinnecock Hills among the U.S. Open’s most iconic venues, a victory would give Clark a signature win to go along with his previous U.S. Open triumph.

Here’s a look at the company Clark is hoping to join.

Has Wyndham Clark won the U.S. Open?

Clark has won the U.S. Open before, capturing his first major at the 2023 edition held at Los Angeles Country Club. There, he held off charges from Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler, and Cameron Smith, ultimately winning by one shot over McIlroy.

Most golfers with a U.S. Open victory on their résumé finish their careers with just a single title at the event. However, Clark’s performance this week has put him on the path toward a second U.S. Open championship, which would place him in an exclusive club of multiple-time winners.

With the pressure of the final round looming, Clark now stands one round away from potentially adding another defining chapter to his career at the U.S. Open.

Two-time U.S. Open winners

There have been 23 golfers in history who have won multiple U.S. Opens since the event began in 1895. Of those, 17 have won it twice, two players have won it three times, and four players have won it four times.

The most recent player to capture a second U.S. Open was Bryson DeChambeau, who achieved the feat in 2024 at Pinehurst. Additionally, each of the last two U.S. Open winners at Shinnecock Hills have gone on to win the event for a second time, as Brooks Koepka and Retief Goosen did in 2018 and 2004, respectively.

A win would make Clark the fourth golfer to win multiple U.S. Opens since 2000 and the third to accomplish the feat at Shinnecock Hills.

How many majors does Wyndham Clark have?

Clark has just the one major victory, which came at the 2023 U.S. Open. In fact, his tied-for-fourth finish at the 2025 British Open is his only other top-21 finish at a major, failing to contend at most of his 18 major starts.
